Embrace the Cold: Perfect Winter Home Projects

January and February are my time to slow down and step back a bit. The shorter days give me permission to “do” less and I turn my attention to more thoughtful and creative activities. Planning for the coming year’s business and reviewing the previous year’s results.

As an avid gardener, it’s time to evaluate the health and design of my gardens. Basically, asking the “what worked, what didn’t work” questions in a deliberate and recorded manner (I keep a garden journal but rarely write my observations in it. I track plantings, etc).

Do you have routines that embrace the Winter months and give you purpose?

Enjoy the slower pace of winter and tackle those home improvement projects you’ve been considering. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:

Deep Clean and Declutter:  A fresh start for a fresh new year!  A clean and organized home promotes a sense of calm and well-being. Start by deep cleaning each room, paying special attention to often-neglected areas like baseboards, windows, and grout. Then, declutter and organize closets, drawers, and shelves. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes!

Refresh with Paint: Transform any room with a fresh coat of paint! Choose colors that inspire you and create the ambiance you desire. Focus on spaces where you spend the most time, like the living room, bedroom, or home office.  Consider painting or refinishing kitchen cabinets for a bigger impact.

Enhance Your Outdoor Space: Even in winter, your outdoor space can be an inviting retreat. Clear walkways and add some potted evergreens for a touch of greenery.  As weather permits, touch up exterior paint and consider adding outdoor lighting to create a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Focus on Comfort and Function: Make your home a true sanctuary during the winter months. Upgrade your bedding with cozy flannel sheets and add plush throws and pillows. Invest in a comfortable armchair perfect for curling up with a good book. In the kitchen, organize your pantry and experiment with new recipes.

Upgrade Lighting and Fixtures: Brighten up those dark winter days by improving your home’s lighting. Add lamps, update outdated fixtures, and clean windows to let in natural light. Installing dimmer switches can add ambiance and increase energy efficiency.
